Crown Paints launches BIM objects

19/05/2015

Crown Paints has added Building Information Modelling (BIM) to its suite of services for specifiers.

The new service can be accessed via a link from Crown Paints’ Specification website, www.crownpaintspec.co.uk or by visiting the paint manufacturer’s profile on the well-recognised National BIM Library www.nationalbimlibrary.com/crown_paints

BIM Objects have been added, to enable users to integrate Crown Paints’ products into a digital model.

The National BIM Library is a free online library consisting of generic and proprietary BIM objects such as walls, windows, doors, foundations, cladding and roofs.

Crown Paints has subscribed to the service well in advance of the UK Government’s proposal for 3D BIM to be implemented on its own sourced projects by 2016.

Usman Akhtar, Specification Sector Support Manager at Crown Paints, said: “The introduction of BIM objects reflects our commitment to bringing technological innovation to the specification process.

“We feel it well bring significant benefits for the industry, including a more consolidated manner in which specifiers can quickly and effectively pull out relevant product information used within the project at any stage.”

The BIM service joins a number of online tools from Crown Paints including the dedicated specification site, which pulls together a raft of online tools and detailed information in a clear and concise format, to underpin a more selective, sustainable and speedier specification process.

The website also includes Crown Paints’ popular PaintSpec Finder®, which delivers instant and technically-detailed specification plans for exterior and interior projects, through a user-friendly format.

This allows users to filter through a great deal of technical information to pinpoint exactly what products – from the specification brands of Crown Trade, Sadolin and Sandtex Trade – they need for their chosen projects.

PaintSpec Finder® then pulls together the specifications into a report, with a personalised cover sheet showing the customer’s name, the project and the user’s own details, which is then all ready for specifiers to hand to their client or add to their tender or reference documents.
