Crown Paints has marked its support for Hull UK City of Culture 2017 with the handover of its 1000th litre of paint to the city.
A specially branded container celebrating the donation – which relates to in excess of 150 tins – was produced by Crown Paints for the event.
Representatives from Hull UK City of Culture 2017 visited the company’s manufacturing centre in Sculcoates Lane to take delivery of the paint.
During Hull UK City of Culture, Crown’s products have played a key role in transforming the city, supporting a range of initiatives and good causes that have helped put the area firmly on the map.
One of the most striking projects involving Crown Paints takes art outdoors, with huge murals in the historic old fishing area of Hessle Road putting colour, heritage and a passion for the city firmly on the map.Sandtex Trade masonry paint – part of the Crown Paints’ family – has been used to create two end of terrace house murals, which celebrate the community’s rich fishing history.

Other donations have included the paint and colour matching expertise to provide a bespoke backdrop for this year’s shortlisted Turner Prize artists to display their work at Ferens Art Gallery, as well as the World’s Favourite Colour initiative, carried out by paper makers G. F Smith, which saw a rich teal shade, named Marrs Green, selected by an international audience.

Paint has also been supplied to the Humber Street Gallery, where Crown has provided a picture-perfect backdrop for the exhibition space.

Ellis Mudd is Site Manager at Crown Paints Hull manufacturing centre. He said: “Crown has been manufacturing paints in the city for more than 200 years and the last 12 months have certainly been a landmark time in our history and that of the city overall.

“We are really proud to support Hull UK City of Culture. It has provided a national and international platform to showcase our colour expertise and celebrate the transformational power of culture.
“The impact of the programme overall has been remarkable and we are delighted to have played our part so far.”

Louise Babych, Hull UK City of Culture Development Manager said: “It’s been wonderful to have Crown Paints on board this year as one of our business partners.

“Their donation of paint to the Hull 2017 programme has allowed us to transform spaces and really showcase their colour matching expertise.”
